All certified copies of events prior to 1941 must be obtained from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Certified copies are $15.00 per copy.

When requesting a vital record by mail, the applicant must:
- Make sure he or she is entitled through a close blood relationship
- Fill out an Application for Certified Copy of an Iowa Vital Record (found at the link above)
- Enclose a copy of their photo I.D., such as a drivers license
- Have the signature of the applicant notarized
- Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope
- Include a check or money order for $15 per copy requested made out to Franklin County Recorder's Office
To obtain an uncertified copy of a vital record or other genealogical information for an event that happened in Franklin County, you are welcome to come into the Recorder’s office to perform that search yourself.
