Certified copies of Iowa vital records from the Franklin County Recorder’s Office are available according to the information posted below:

  • Statewide Iowa Death Records from 1954 to current
  • Statewide Iowa Marriage Records from 1954 to current
  • Statewide Iowa Birth Records from 1986 to current
Certified copies of Iowa events prior to the dates listed above can be obtained from the County where the event took place or the Iowa Department of Public Health.
All certified copies of events prior to 1941 must be obtained from the Iowa Department of Public Health.

Certified copies are $15.00 per copy.

When requesting a vital record by mail, the applicant must:

  • Make sure he or she is entitled through a close blood relationship
  • Fill out an Application for Certified Copy of an Iowa Vital Record (found at the link above)
  • Enclose a copy of their photo I.D., such as a drivers license
  • Have the signature of the applicant notarized
  • Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope
  • Include a check or money order for $15 per copy requested made out to Franklin County Recorder's Office

To obtain an uncertified copy of a vital record or other genealogical information for an event that happened in Franklin County,  you are welcome to come into the Recorder’s office to perform that search yourself.
